Why Choose Sleep Innovations?
Sleep Innovations has earned its name as an innovator in the mattress industry. The company was the first to offer a “bed-in-a-box” by selling mattresses that arrive at consumers’ doors in small, manageable containers one adult can transport and set up. Besides freeing mattress buyers from the costly delivery and set-up processes of traditional sleep surfaces, the company also developed the first gel memory foam mattress product line. Now, this array of products and delivery methods are copied by upstart mattress brands worldwide. But Sleep Innovations maintains a solid American market share through price value, quality, and durability.
History
When Sleep Innovations’ founder Michael Fux was only 15 years old, he emigrated with his family from Cuba to the United States. The family sought better economic opportunities for Michael, his brother, and his parents. They first arrived in Newark, New Jersey, in 1958. By 1959, Fux owned his first retail business, a used tire and battery store inside a rented two-car garage.
For decades, Fux worked in retail and as a manufacturer’s representative. He even experienced a low point in his career from which he learned a great deal. That low point was a bankruptcy. But Michael picked himself up and dusted himself off, moving on to new projects. It is that ability to push forward when many others might give up that enabled him to innovate in his methods and products. This innovative streak later helped him develop the concept and products for Sleep Innovations.
Through his sister-in-law in 1985, Michael was first exposed to polyurethane foam mattresses sold to healthcare institutions. He went to work as an executive for the company making the mattresses, taking the egg-crate style foam sleep surfaces to the consumer market.
After 10 years in this mattress field, he decided to innovate again. By 1996, Sleep Innovations was born. Fux started producing viscoelastic foam mattresses, pillows, and bed toppers. He even innovated in the product packaging, developing colorful boxes with wheels and a handle, making it easy for customers to transport their own purchases.
After taking his $3,000 initial investment in his mattress product line to a value of more than $300 million, Michael Fux sold the company. Under its current ownership, Sleep Innovations continues to sell its quality gel memory foam mattresses and other sleep products from its headquarters in Red Bank, New Jersey.
Founding and Milestones

Sleep Innovations’ growth started simply enough in 1996 under an individual entrepreneur’s leadership and development. Michael Fux of New Jersey, an immigrant from Cuba, turned his $3,000 initial investment and experience in the memory foam industry into a $300 million brand in only 10 years. He sold the company in 2006 to investors from Sun Capital Partners, Inc. From there, the company’s history becomes more complex and upwardly mobile.
The new owners operated the brand with continued success from 2006 until 2014, then purchased Flexible Foam Products Inc., another Sun Capital Partners portfolio company. With the merger of these two brands under the new corporate name of Innocor, Inc. of West Long Branch, New Jersey, the mattress company became the second-largest flexible polyurethane foam producer in North America. Innocor continued selling many of its sleep surface products under the brand name Sleep Innovations. At the same time, it manufactured flexible polyurethane foam for other product lines, brands, and customers throughout the world.
From 2014 to 2020, Innocor continued Sleep Innovations’ growth and development. Then in 2020, the company merged with FXI of Radnor, Pennsylvania. FXI was another mattress and mattress topper manufacturer. FXI is the new parent company name, still operating Sleep Innovations as one of its top brands. This merger expanded the mattress line’s growth potential, giving the brand immediate access to FXI’s 34 manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout North America. The company employs over 4,150 people.
Production and Manufacturing
After more than 25 years in production, Sleep Innovations products maintain a solid market share among consumers. The brand is known for offering quality within the niche of gel memory foam mattresses and other bedding merchandise. Below is a look at some of the top products made by Sleep Innovations, the company’s manufacturing, and other key facts.
Products

If you are looking for a quality American-made mattress with gel memory foam, a cooling surface, and durability, Sleep Innovations is certainly a contender in your options. In fact, this brand was the first to offer a memory foam mattress compacted into a small box.
Developing this deliverable concept was new to the mattress industry but quickly took the U.S. market by storm. Now, only just over 25 years later, having a mattress delivered in a little box by mail is commonplace. No longer must customers schedule mattress retailer delivery dates, pay delivery upcharges and enlist the help of laborers to unpack and set up their cumbersome sleep surface. Sleep Innovations mattresses are compacted at the factory, rolled up tightly, and packed into manageable packaging easily carried and handled by one adult. When the mattress is removed from its box, you only have to unroll it and place it atop your bed. The gel memory foam lives up to its name and does the rest, decompressing and expanding to its standard mattress size.
Sleep Innovations offers six categories of mattresses. These include Sleep Innovations Ellis Mattress, Sleep Innovations Skyler Mattress, Sleep Innovations Quinn Mattress, Sleep Innovations Hudson Mattress, Sleep Innovations Shiloh Mattress, and Sleep Innovations Marley Mattress. The brand makes it easy to know how to choose the right mattress among these options. Manufacturing
According to Sleep Innovations, all of the brand’s mattresses are made with the highest quality of gel foam certified as CertiPUR-US®. Every product under the brand is made in North America at one of the parent company’s almost three dozen manufacturing and distribution locations.
FXI uses proprietary methods and processes to build its mattresses. This includes Variable Pressure Foaming and the use of an enclosed chamber for constant control over atmospheric conditions that affect memory foam quality. This VPF process also results in almost zero carbon emissions and eliminates harmful blowing agents, including Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
Key Facts
According to FXI, innovation is a collaborative process in which all of its employees play a role. All of the company’s Research and Development takes place in their R&D facility in Aston, Pennsylvania. FXI innovations are highly focused on minimizing their products’ impact on the environment, both in the production process and through a lifetime of use.
Warranty Information
Each Sleep Innovations mattress sold by an approved retailer offers a 10-year limited manufacturer warranty. The manufacturer guarantees the fabric covering and foam material of each mattress will be defect-free in both materials and workmanship. When you purchase your mattress, you receive a written warranty with specific details and company contact information.
If a warrantied mattress has a defect, the company repairs or replaces the product. Which resolution will occur is up to the manufacturer. When they replace the product, they may use materials of the same or better quality, depending on availability.
Each product owner can only use their warranty for replacement once in the lifetime of their original purchase. Warranty coverage is voided if the product owner removes or launders the mattress cover.
It is important after purchasing a new mattress to ensure the warranty is registered. Sleep Innovations provides an online form to make this convenient and easy. Then, when you need to make a claim against your warranty, you only have to call Sleep Innovations at the provided phone number or contact them by email. The company provides a claim form to be completed and submitted by the consumer along with a copy of their original purchase receipt. The customer is responsible for shipping charges to return the mattress to the nearest Sleep Innovations factory.
Once the factory receives the returned mattress, they inspect it to determine the defect or other problem. The company then repairs or replaces the product for the customer.
